26th Annual American Harvest Workshop

(Rutherford, CA, June 24, 2012) — Cakebread Cellars, the Napa Valley winery founded by Jack and Dolores Cakebread in 1973, is pleased to announce the six guest chefs and initial schedule of events for its 26th Annual “American Harvest Workshop,” a hands-on, four-day wine and food program to be held at the winery September 8-12, 2012.

 

Each year, the American Harvest Workshop (AHW) brings chefs from around the world to Cakebread Cellars for four days of menu collaboration, grape harvesting, cooking, purveyor-visiting, and more. A small number of non-chef attendees — including Cakebread wine club members and a handful of members of the trade and media — participate alongside the chefs.

 

Started by Jack Cakebread and now overseen by Cakebread’s Culinary Director Brian Streeter, the AHW is in its 26th straight year– the longest continuous winery culinary program of its kind in the Napa Valley. The program’s chef alumni include a number of renowned toques, such as Rick Moonen, Rocco DiSpirito, Frank Stitt, Gary Danko, Charlie Trotter, Bradley Ogden, and others.

 

The six guest chefs who will be participating in the 2012 AHW are:

David Hawksworth, Hawksworth Restaurant (Vancouver, Canada)

Greg Biggers, Sofitel Chicago Water Tower (Chicago, IL)

Danny Trace, Brennan’s Houston (Houston, TX)

Daniel Stern, R2L Restaurant (Philadelphia, PA)

Will Bradof and Paul Wireman, Trio (Jackson, WY)

 

“We have an exciting lineup of chefs this year,” said Streeter. “From the Texas Creole cuisine of Chef Trace, to the contemporary Canadian cuisine of Chef Hawksworth, all of the chefs participating this year bring distinct cooking styles that marry well with wine. We’re looking forward to cooking, tasting, and learning with them in September.”

 

In addition to chefs from around the world, Northern Californian food purveyors have always been central the AHW. This year’s participating purveyors include Rancho Gordo Beans, Fatted Calf, Cowgirl Creamery, Hog Island Oyster Company, and TCHO Chocolates, among others.

The public– both Cakebread wine club members and non-wine club members, alike– can take part in the American Harvest Workshop in several ways:

 

Opening Night Reception & Farmer’s Market

Saturday, September 8th, 4:00-5:30 pm

Location: Cakebread Cellars, 8300 St. Helena Hwy, Rutherford, CA

At Cakebread’s on-site “Farmer’s Market,” attendees meet a wide range of local purveyors and sample their artisan products, while enjoying a selection of Cakebread Cellars wines and barrel tastings. Cost: $25 per person (wine club members), $30 per person (non-wine club members).

 

Harvest Dinners at Cakebread Cellars

Monday, September 10th, 6:00 pm

Tuesday, September 11th, 6:00 pm

Location: Cakebread Cellars, 8300 St. Helena Hwy, Rutherford, CA

Attendees at each of these multi-course dinners enjoy dishes prepared by the guest chefs– all paired with library Cakebread wines and served on the winery’s elegant Pecan Patio. Cost: $175 per person.
