Spring in the Valley, By Bike or Foot

Waterville Valley Report, NH– April 14, 2009—With the promise of spring comes fun family events at Waterville Valley Report, set in the middle of the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire. Waterville Valley is surrounded by 700,000 acres of forest. What it doesn’t have are fast food places, traffic, stoplights and the usual chain stores. Waterville Valley’s emphasis on family and community brings visitors back year after year.

Hikers have been exploring Waterville Valley since the 1800s. Today, visitors can opt for a post-dinner jaunt around Corcoran’s Pond at the center of town, or work up a sweat by climbing the 4,315-foot summit of Mount Osceola for stunning views of the entire valley. In between, there’s a walk through the woods and wildflowers of the valley floor. The truly adventurous may set out for the three peaks of Mount Tripyramid, the highest points in the valley.

Many visitors bring their mountain bikes to the valley, to explore the miles of mountain trails where biking is allowed. Everything from meandering dirt fire roads to single-tracks are available.

Arriving in Waterville Valley, visitors can park their cars once and forget about them the remainder of their stay. The Town Square is a pedestrian-only zone while most of the many activities—are within walking distance.

Story Time at the Curious George Cottage Studio- Every Saturday in at 1:30 pm. on the second level of Waterville Valley’s Town Square

Tot Open Gym- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Waterville Valley Recreation Center for ages 7 & under. Enjoy a full-size gym packed with toys, balls & mats for playing. $2/person

Open Basketball Saturday from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at the Waterville Valley Recreation Department. Round up a group & come over for a pick up game. $2/youth & $3/adult.

May 16 and 17: Black Bear Duathlon Whether you are a first time duathlete or a seasoned competitor on the multi-sport scene, we offer you an exciting new Black Bear Duathlon. Waterville Valleys stands for health, sports and adventure: the ideal setting for the first Black Bear Duathlon brought to you by Tritanium Sports in co-operation with the Town of Waterville Valley and Waterville Valley Resort.

May 24 Waterville Valley Resort’s 11th Annual Chili Challenge will be held at noon, Sunday May 24 in Town Square. Waterville Valley Resort restaurants will compete for the title of the best chili around. Visitors will pay a small fee to sample all of the entries and be given a chance to vote for their favorites. The cook-off is accompanied by a free outdoor concert, strolling magician, balloon art, and a chili-pepper eating contest. Kids carnival rides will be set up Saturday and Sunday.
