Oklahoma City – In recognition of the 26th annual National Tourism Week (May 9-17), the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department will host giveaways and events at Tourism Information Centers across the state.
“Travelers expect to find free travel information from our expert travel counselors, clean restrooms and a nice place to stretch their legs at our Welcome Centers, but next week they will also receive special edition trivia cards featuring 100 things to do in Oklahoma,” said Hardy Watkins, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department.
The trivia cards showcase hundreds of beautiful photos taken from around the state, as well as interesting facts that tell the story of some of Oklahoma’s most popular destinations. These cards are a must-have keepsake for tourists and Oklahomans alike, and will be free to visitors of the state’s 12 Tourism Information Centers throughout National Tourism Week.
Many of the Tourism Information Centers and regional marketing associations have planned celebrations in honor of National Tourism Week. Activities range from door prizes to planting trees and flowers to giving away hotdogs and sodas. Details on locations and events are attached below. Oklahoma’s celebration is part of a larger effort led by the U.S. Travel Association with rallies in cities and states nationwide that emphasize the economic benefits that tourism brings to local workers and communities.
“Tourism is big business for Oklahoma, generating $5.3 billion for the state’s economy and employing nearly 72,000 people statewide,” said Watkins.
The American Automobile Association (AAA) continually ranks Oklahoma as one of the country’s best travel values. While the state’s value ranking is good news to cost-conscience consumers, the state’s appeal as a quality destination is also gaining attention.
“As we celebrate National Tourism Week and the summer travel season, I invite travelers to put Oklahoma at the top of their vacation list,” said Watkins. “Every family can take advantage of our diverse terrain and wide variety of attractions to have a memorable vacation without breaking the bank.”
Attraction coupons and hotel packages for a variety of Oklahoma destinations can be found in the Hot Deals section of www.TravelOK.com.
