The New South Pointe Park, Miami

After an investment of approx. $22 million and 20 months of hard work, South Pointe Park, located at the southernmost tip of Miami Beach has reopened just two months ago. And the ‘e’ at the end of pointe is not a typo, that’s how the name is spelled.
I went to visit today, on a dramatically tropical Friday with sunshine, heavy showers and big clouds chasing across the sky.
The weather somehow gave the place an added attraction. It is indeed a beautiful park, with carefully preserved sand dunes, a long promenade from which you have a clear view of Fisher Island right across and of the busy Port of Miami to the right.
The beach is very clean and much quieter than the overpopulated sands near Lincoln Road. Children can run riot and play around metal tubes spouting water, although dogs aren’t allowed to roam freely, a leash is a must. Many benches along the promenade invite to just sit and look at the ocean. If you are lucky, you can observe one of the seaplanes, taking off for the Bahamas from the nearby airport.
Whether you visit the park with family or on your own, it’s also an ideal destination for resting tired feet after hiking along Ocean Drive from around 8th or 7th Street which feature some of the most breathtaking art deco buildings of Miami Beach. I also noticed today, that the Versace Villa on Ocean Drive offers guided tours. That was news to me.
