Chilling, Downtown Miami

It’s always gratifying to find a hidden and unexpected spot to chill and relax in an otherwise big and thriving metropolis like Miami. I only happened upon this, because I visited Bayside Market Place on Biscayne Boulevard, then went down the steps towards the water to check out possible boat trips, like to one on a pirate boat, and continued on towards where the Miami River flows into Biscayne Bay. Bayside Park is quite big and green, but then I turned a corner and came upon an unexpected piece of sheer Caribbean island paradise.

Hardly any tourists are around, because they don’t walk so far, but you’ll find local families, often of Cuban origin, enjoying the view of the Bay, the soft breeze and a picnic. And the odd fisherman too.

There are two or three mobile stalls around on the promenade which sell soft drinks and hot dogs, so nobody needs to starve.
Bring a book and perhaps a foldable seat cushion and you can spend hours happily imagining yourself on a deserted tropical island, but being only steps away from Downtown Miami whenever you have enough of so much peace and quiet.
