Savannah: I was a Southern Belle (for the weekend)

I wanted to see the real Savannah, not just the tourist facade. So, I decided that renting a luxury townhouse instead of a hotel room would be the best way to do it. I totally lucked out and found one right on Forsyth Park. It was in walking distance of all the lovely moss covered squares and the great shopping on Bull Street. It was arranged through Savannahdreamvacations.com. They found my husband and I this gorgeous rental with two bedrooms, a gourmet kitchen, and a spacious living room. It also had this amazing staircase that I wanted to walk up and down all day long, pretending I was the lady of the manor.

We were only there for a weekend. But I could have stayed for a week. I loved the charm of Savannah and feeling like a true Southerner with my gracious home, my view of the park, and my easy access to all things Savannah right outside my door. The house itself was an architectural classic. Painted bright blue, it had huge windows, rich wood floors, and high ceilings. The extra cool part was we had a local chef to come cook us brunch. Very yummy! They also do picnic lunches – something to look forward to on our next trip. And, best of all, we even had two masseuses come right to the house. (And the same site that offered the rental arranged for all of the custom services, so booking was so easy.)

And as the grand finale, we took a classic caddy tour (http://www.classiccaddytours.com) of the city in the swankiest 1960’s caddy, complete with hot cocoa and a cozy throw so we could take the tour top down even though there was a snap in the air. We saw all of the historic squares and buidlings, the Bonaventure Cemetary (home of the Garden of Good and Evil statue), Fort Pulaski, and all of the gorgeous homes, adorable shops, and quaint restaurants. We did not have the chance to take the ghost tour, which I hear is a scream. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. But that’s on the list for next time too.

If a weekend like that isn’t living in style, I don’t know what is. Let’s just say I found it very hard to leave. That’s one life I could definitely get used to – quickly!
