Tesla Meets the Laptop

Imagine yourself in a dark laboratory deep within a Serbian castle. A ruffled scientist hunches over machinery, turning knobs and pulling levers, as bolts of electricity crackle through the air above him. The laptop on the surgical table is mysteriously reborn.

Sound like SciFi?

Like many people, I despise the hassle of carrying voltage converters, chargers, and multiple adapter plugs to recharge my laptop in foreign countries. Imagine my surprise when I read that there is a better way, and that a leading architect of the 20th century electrical revolution, Nikolas Tesla, had developed this wireless power system over 100 years ago. While some believe he was “mad”, he is credited with the development of both AM radio and alternating current. This was simply the natural progression of these two groundbreaking discoveries.

This charger works by creating an electro-magnetic field that surrounds the computer. By placing the laptop within this field it will top off your battery without the need for chargers or cables again. Several manufacturers are scheduled to release laptops next year that use this “Tesla Effect”, but as with any bleeding-edge technology it may take awhile for it to become “mainstream”.

Tesla wasn’t mad – just visionary.
