New York’s First Wall Street Hotel, the Andas
February 26, 2010 | Written by Inka Piegsa-Quischott
If you thought, that Wall Street is deserted after dark and on weekends when all the money-spinning worker bees have gone home, think again. The area has become very lively at all hours, with new bars, clubs and restaurants springing up everywhere. Taking advantage of this new development, Hyatt has opened the first ever hotel with an address directly on Wall Street, i.e. the Andaz located at 75 Wall Street.
The... [Read more]
Circling Manhattan
February 24, 2010 | Written by Inka Piegsa-Quischott
Someone who, like me, comes to New York for the first time, can probably be forgiven for thinking about a train when asked if she wants to go on the Circle Line. That term is in fact the name of a wonderful boat ride around the island of Manhattan no visitor to New York should miss, even in such low temperatures as I experienced last week. It was bitter cold, ice covered part of the Hudson River, but on the water we went... [Read more]

Amarghosa Opera House and Hotel
January 16, 2010 | Written by Matt Scott
It was almost 100 degrees and very humid, when we left Las Vegas en-route to Death Valley, “We’re not camping tonight are we?” said Claire, as more of a statement than a question. I had no reluctance in agreeing as I turned on the air con and headed out onto the Strip.
Almost every national park in America has a line of hotels, restaurants, gas stations and other amenities leading up to the main entrance... [Read more]
Crossing Worlds in Arizona
November 22, 2009 | Written by Virginia Foley
There are no passport checks, no immigration lines and no border patrol, yet to enter the remote desert land of Southeast Arizona is truly a crossing of worlds. This is where one of the oldest civilizations in North America lives, where ancient culture and traditions, spirituality and mythology form one continuous link from past to present.
If you are ready to leave behind our world of consumerism, excess, technology,... [Read more]
Art in the City, Denver
November 18, 2009 | Written by Jenny Block
Denver is a very arty city. A number of public art pieces can be found throughout downtown and the Denver Art Museum is massive. I only had the chance to check out the contemporary and modern floors, but I was, well, floored. They most memorable piece is an installation of a restaurant full of tables set for dinner all painted red. The floor, the walls, the vases on the tables, the chairs. Everything in the exhibit was... Swimming the Denver Aquarium
November 16, 2009 | Written by Jenny Block
The Denver Aquarium is not enormous. We did it in about an hour and a half. But it’s got some really cool features. You can actually dive with the sharks or snorkel with the fish in massive tanks that are the very same one aquarium guests come to view. So, when people are in them, the show is even better! They have three tigers who love to swim.
Or who at least used to love to swim. The aquarium had to lower... [Read more]
A Taste of Cleveland
November 13, 2009 | Written by Jennifer Rhodes
It’s early Friday morning and Cleveland’s West Side Market is already bustling. Here, four days a week, over 100 vendors hock their wares from just-harvested produce and artisan cheeses to freshly made pasta and made-from-scratch pastries. Wafting out of each vendor’s space is a different, tantalizing aroma: the comforting smell of freshly baked bread, the autumnal fragrance of newly picked apples, the unmistakable... [Read more]
More than Rocks and Rockets in Denver
November 5, 2009 | Written by Jenny Block
The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is huge and truly needs a full day to explore in its entirety. We only had a few hours. So we carefully chose what we would see. Expedition Health was really interesting. I got to see what I would look like at age 70 (Not good.) and go on a virtual hike. We were able to check all of our vital signs and learn more than I ever wanted to know about bodily functions. My ten-year-old was... [Read more]

November 5, 2009 | Written by Dawna L. Robertson

I’ve had the pleasure of visiting each of these beauties, with my most recent stay at the Four Seasons Resort Maui that’s perched on a white-sand... [Read more]
Cambria Suites, Denver — Color Me Surprised
November 2, 2009 | Written by Jenny Block
I made a really great discovery just outside of Denver, Colorado. I stayed in a hotel in Aurora called Cambria Suites. I had no idea what to expect. But I sure liked it there. The staff was amazingly friendly and called us by name right from the get go. The place has a real modern look. I had heard that they were interested in appealing to the twenty or thirty something business set and I believe they’re off on exactly... [Read more]
Fringe Dwelling in Provincetown
September 6, 2009 | Written by Jayne B. Stearns
Jutting into the Atlantic and looking from the air like an angry fist raised toward heaven, Provincetown (or Ptown), Massachusettes, is instead a haven for ethnic, artistic, religious and sexual tolerance. It is where the fringes of society become the majority and in addition, owns bragging rights to some of the best beaches and seafood in the World. Luxury in the Mountains of Virginia
September 6, 2009 | Written by Jenny Block
It certainly wasn’t the first place that came to mind when I decided I wanted to take my mom on a short holiday. But considering it was a weekend marked by quiet, classic luxury. It should have been. Keswick Hall, tucked away in the mountains of Charlottesville, is an elegant Orient Express property. With only 48 rooms, the architecturally stunning mansion offers the kind of gracious living typical of the small Virginia... [Read more]
The Jaws Bridge of Martha’s Vineyard
September 5, 2009 | Written by Sabina Lohr
This summer day, like all summer days, the ordinarily still waters beneath the American Legion Memorial Bridge on Martha’s Vineyard are alive with the splashes of people hopping off the railing and plunging into the Atlantic Ocean. Primarily adolescents partake of the island tradition of leaping off this little bridge on the road between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. But sometimes adults like to throw themselves into... [Read more]
